Whatever is happening on the Starbucks menu right now is making me feel like I'm a senior citizen. AdvertisementThe rise of complicated, multi-ingredient sweet drinks has coincided with the rise in popularity of the Starbucks app, accelerated by the start of the pandemic in 2020 when many locations couldn't take walk-in orders. I tried the newer Starbucks drinks myselfMy Oleato Golden Foam Iced Shaken Espresso with Toffeenut drink, which was 360 calories and tasted like coffee ice cream. Katie Notopoulos / Business InsiderI acknowledge I'm a bit of a crank when I say: The Starbucks menu is out of control. (I should note here that my grande iced drink was 360 calories, which does seem like a dessert treat rather than a morning coffee.

Oliver spies on Felix as he pleasures himself in a clawfoot tub. After Felix finishes and leaves the room, Oliver crawls into the tub and drinks the last bit of water from the bath as it swirls down the rusty drain. The scene's shocking nature has led to countless TikToks and jokes, including a cocktail recipe inspired by the moment. "The bathroom was described along with the whole walkthrough scene when Felix walks through showing Oliver the house," Davies told Business Insider. "It was a spare bedroom with tapestry on the walls and a cream color," Davies explained of their chosen room.

The Russia-Ukraine war is entering its third year, and neither side appears to have a significant advantage. But soldiers on both sides of the frontlines are fighting a losing battle. In Kherson, Ukraine, some Russian soldiers have had to resort to drinking cans of meat mixed with river water to avoid starving to death. As the fighting nears its 24th month, Russian soldiers are growing increasingly demoralized, distrustful of military leadership, and desperate to return home. But Ukrainian soldiers are fighting their own uphill battle.

A FEW HOURS before service at Ilis, a newly opened restaurant in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, two-dozen or so young cooks in crisp black-linen shirts and olive-drab aprons stand around tables and islands, deep in prep. In one corner of the former warehouse, two of them carefully seal large surf-clam shells with beeswax and bind them with twine. Soon these will be filled with a combination of clam juice, clarified tomato juice and dashi, to be slurped by diners paying $295 for a 12-course dinner. At a worktable, dozens of defeathered Khaki Campbell ducks await 21 days of dry aging. It may sound like the standard set-up for a high-end restaurant of a particular Nordic bent, but it isn’t.

A great white shark that washed up on a beach in Australia appeared to be half-eaten. Scientists said the shark was likely attacked by a killer whale that just wanted to eat its liver. Rare footage captured for Discovery Channel's Shark Week in 2022 showed three orcas killing a great white shark in order to eat its liver. How to cook mussels at home
  + stars: | 2023-09-17 | by ( Casey Barber | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +6 min
How to prepare musselsRemember that mussels are alive until you cook them, and they need to stay alive and breathing until they’re ready to hit the pan. If you won’t be cooking and eating your mussels immediately, use the colander method as noted above to store the mussels until you’re ready to use them. How to cook musselsUnlike oysters, which take a bit of practice and skill to shuck, it’s simple to steam mussels. Add the cleaned mussels, cover the pot and cook for about 8-10 minutes until all the mussels have opened. • Mussels in tomato-garlic broth• Spanish mussels with hard chorizo and cream• Beer-steamed mussels• White wine and olive oil-steamed mussels• Mussels in coconut milkCasey Barber is a food writer, artist and editor of the website Good Food Stories.

Divers captured rare footage of a gruesome killer whale hunting technique. An orca off the coast of California was seen "slurping" the liver of a live shark. The gruesome footage shows an orca tearing into the stomach of a 30-foot-long whale shark before removing its liver. "Looks like they slurped in the liver and then the whale shark just fell and descended down, with no movement — I'm assuming it was dead," he said. Shortly after the encounter, another orca killed another whale shark nearby.

REUTERS/Liliana SalgadoPHOENIX, July 21 (Reuters) - On Day 22 of temperatures in Phoenix exceeding 110 degrees Fahrenheit (43 Celsius), a Eurasian eagle owl enjoyed a prolonged shower on Friday while monkeys and horses ate icy treats, some laced with Gatorade. The Phoenix Zoo has come up with myriad ways to cool off animals in the historic record-breaking heat wave, including hose-downs, mister lines, cooling pads, ponds, mud water, fans and air-conditioned buildings. So this is one of the ways that we help them cool down in this heat," said zookeeper Leslie Lindholm. And over in Monkey Village, tiny squirrel monkeys pulled frozen treats out of buckets. A.I. and TV Ads Were Made for Each Other
  + stars: | 2023-06-27 | by ( Mac Schwerin | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +3 min
Some of the people who make commercials today are worried that A.I. to make fake ads gives it a job it already excels at: assistant ethnographer, media-studies expert, unbiased auditor of cultural tropes. In “Synthetic Summer,” the partygoers seemingly don’t know how to drink: They hold cans a few inches from their faces or latch their lips to the sides. “Synthetic Summer,” for instance, has the DNA of a 20-year-old Bud Light commercial; it bears little resemblance to the brand’s latest Super Bowl spot. As far as brands are concerned, that’s fine: They need not train A.I.

To many, the lifestyle of a "digital nomad" is an aspirational one — you can live anywhere in the world, visa permitting, with your laptop as your office. But one factor deters many from the lifestyle: kids. He added that now more resources exist to help people learn about the digital nomad lifestyle, thanks to its growing popularity. Elledge-Penner family: 20 countriesThe beautiful Indonesian island of Bali, famed for its laidback lifestyle, is a popular destination for digital nomads. Penner said the key to making the lifestyle work for them is "connecting with people" and not approaching places "as a travel highlight hit list."
